Days are getting longer, weather is getting warmer… and movie theaters are getting more interesting. Summer is pretty much here, and that means a long string of blockbusters are coming our way!
Avengers: Infinity War might continue to be the biggest film of 2018, but there’s still plenty more to go around. Keep in mind that, yes, this is mostly sequels and spinoffs we’re talking about. Here are the movies you should be looking out for this summer!
1. Ocean’s 8. June 6
Hollywood’s latest attempt at gender-swapping a popular franchise, hopefully a better one than Ghostbusters. Here, we have a team of specialists pulling a heist, led by Sandra Bullock, who plays Danny Ocean’s sister. The stellar cast also includes Bullock’s fellow Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway, plus Emmy sweetheart Sarah Paulson. Megastars Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Awkwafina and Helena Bonham Carter complete the line-up.
2. Incredibles 2. June 15
Can you believe it’s been 14 years since we met the Parr family? This year, we’re finally getting them back in theaters, and it’s an experience you can’t miss. The children haven’t grown up in this time (yes, Jack-Jack is still an explosive baby), so there’s that.
As you’d expect, there’s some family drama mixed with awesome superpowers. Plus, Samuel L. Jackson is still trying to find that super-suit!
3. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. June 22
Why do these scientists insist on pushing modern-day dinosaurs into the world, even if it always ends badly? Ugh. Suspension of disbelief aside, the first Jurassic World, starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, was a great summer flick. We expect nothing short of mindless, crazy, dinosaur-filled fun this time around.
4. Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado. June 29
The Sicario sequel lost a couple of its main players, namely star Emily Blunt and director Denis Villeneuve. However, there’s still Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin, who were both in Infinity War. It really feels like Brolin is in every big movie this summer, doesn’t it?
In any case, this time around, the crew is opening an all-out war with the Mexican cartel. And it seems like the film actually focuses on Brolin’s character.
5. And-Man and the Wasp. July 6
This movie could give us a glimmer of hope in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after all the destruction. Set right before Avengers: Infinity War, it follows Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, and might dig into the Quantum Realm. Michelle Pfeiffer is also in this film, in her first superhero role since playing Catwoman in Batman Returns.
6. Mission: Impossible – Fallout. July 27
The sixth installment of the Mission: Impossible films is upon us. A big deal for Tom Cruise, who still rocks these at 55, you might know this for something else. M:I6 is the movie for which Henry Cavill infamously grew a mustache. You know, the one you could still see thanks to some weird CGI on Justice League? This is the chance to find out if it was worth it.
